Trams have played an integral part in the life of many cities since the latter part of the 19th Century to modern times. Back in its heyday during the "Gold Rush" era, many Australian cities developed tramways to transport people before the widespread advent of the automobile.
We have been collecting trams as these systems went into decline in the post war period, with our newest acquisitions being retired or salvaged vehicles.
The TMSV is responsible for a large collection of trams. Most of our tramcar fleet is from Melbourne, with a collection of trams from Geelong, Ballarat and Adelaide.
Most of our collection is housed at our Melbourne Tramway Museum, located in Bylands, with some vehicles on loan to the Victorian Government being housed at the Hawthorn Tram Depot.
