Notice of Reconvened Annual General Meeting and Social Meeting

Venue: Hawthorn Tram Depot

Time: 5.00pm Saturday 28th November 2009

The Annual General Meeting of the Society was adjourned on 29th August 2009 with all business concluded except for acceptance of the financial statements which were still with the auditor.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting will be reconvened at 5.00pm on Saturday 28th November to consider and accept the Statement of Accounts.

A light supper will follow the completion of the AGM, followed then by a social meeting which will feature a slide show of a variety of tramway and railway subjects from last century provided by long time members John Rawnsley and Doug Prosser. This should be an interesting show.

We’d like as many members, guests and potential new members as possible to come along to support the Society.

Hoping to see you there,

John Wayman,

Operational Changes to the Bylands Tramway Heritage Centre

27 June 2009

As a part of the new safety requirements, All existing commercial rail operator accreditations in Victoria expire on 30 June 2008, or earlier by agreement under the outgoing Transport Act 1983.

Under the Victorian Rail Safety Act 2006 (RSA), rail infrastructure managers (RIMs) and rolling stock operators (RSOs) must be accredited to operate by the Director, Public Transport Safety (the Safety Director).

As a result, we will not be able to operate trams at the Bylands Tramway Hertiage Centre until all the relevant documentation is complete and reviewed by the PTSV who will then issue a new Notice of Accreditation enabling trams to once again operate.

From the 1st of July 2009, the Bylands Tramway Heritage Centre will be operating as a static museum until further notice.

Trams in the Twilight Postponed

17 February 2009

We wish to advise that the Trams in the Twilight event scheduled for this Saturday 21st February 2009 has been postponed. The new date for the event will be Saturday the 4th of April 2009.

The working bee also scheduled for this day has also been cancelled.

The reason for the postponement is due to the current fire danger in the area, and the current dry conditions of the Bylands site. The risk for a potential outbreak of fire as a result of a spark is all too real!

In respect to the bushfires, they passed (fortunately) about 1 km to the east of our site. The flames and heat were quite noticeable at Bylands on the day. We were lucky that the wind was blowing from the north-west, and not directly from the north

An Afternoon at Bylands a Success

17 January 2009

It was a perfect day to host our Afternoon at Bylands event at the Bylands Tramway Heritage Centre on the 17th of January.  Within the first 15 minutes of the museum being open our car park was already overflowing.  With a gold coin donation at the Kiosk, over 300 people came through our gates providing plenty of support.  A lot of thanks goes to all the volunteers that provided their much valued assistance during the day and there were a lot of smiles on everyone's faces as we were able to show the locals from Mitchell Shire what we have to offer and many fond memories.

Thank you once again to everyone who attended.
